With an impressive number of entries, green-fingered customers once again impressed the judges in Coastline Housing’s annual garden competition.

Customers in towns and villages across Cornwall, including Camborne, Redruth, Illogan, Helston, St Ives, Trewoon, Constantine, Mabe, Falmouth and Mullion proudly entered their glorious gardens in the contest.

With eight categories on offer, from most attractive small garden and best vegetable garden to best garden by a gardener with disabilities, all entrants dug deep to create some imaginative and impressive displays. These included hanging baskets, colourful rockeries, artistic garden sculptures and water features.

Chairman of Coastline Housing, Derek Law, and professional gardener, Jeannie Bates, had the difficult job of judging all the many superb entries.

Mr Law said: “This was my first year judging the Coastline garden competition and I was extremely impressed by all the gardens our customers presented to us. It was a privilege to be able to meet customers from many parts of the county who have clearly dedicated huge amounts of time and effort to create some amazing gardens. I’d like to personally congratulate each and every person who took part.”

Mrs Bates added: “I was very impressed this year by the innovative ways that many entrants had used their sometimes challenging spaces to create interesting, visually attractive and, often, productive gardens.”
