Camborne kids to dance at Royal Albert Hall
2:00pm Tuesday 6th August 2013 in News
Talented dancers from Camborne will be among a group taking to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall as part of this year's 'Dance Proms' celebrations.
The dancers from Danceworx Dance Factory in Cornwall have been chosen to take part in a major international dance spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall in November, supported by top dance names such as Darcey Bussell CBE, Arlene Phillips CBE and Len Goodman.
The school has three branches, with dancers from the Newquay, St Agnes and Camborne areas all performing in Dance Proms.
The Danceworx dancers, who are aged between 11 and 20, will join 24 other dance acts and celebrity dancers on stage at the third annual Dance Proms at the Royal Albert Hall on November 3. Dance Proms provides young dancers with a unique opportunity to perform at one of the world’s most prestigious venues., with the dancers sharing the stage with some of the best youth dance talent from the UK, Italy, Belgium and New Zealand.
Danceworx Dance Factory will be performing a rock and roll piece called Cornish Candy, originally choreographed for the Sky 1 television show Got To Dance, where the group made it through to the live auditions.
Mandy Davies, Danceworx principal, said: “For us to be able to perform alongside other great dance schools at such an iconic venue as the Royal Albert Hall is amazing. Coming to London to perform is an exciting and a scary prospect for our dancers. A performance in our local theatre in Truro has been a big event up till now and that can accommodate a capacity crowd of 969; the Royal Albert Hall is 5 times larger. I can’t wait to see their faces when they realise quite how big it is. This experience will stay with them forever.”
Darcey Bussell CBE, Patron of Dance Proms and President of the Royal Academy of Dance, said: “It’s so important that young talent has a chance to see what other talented people are doing at this national event. I know from my own experience how important it is to see what your peers are up to while you’re training. For a student, performing at the Royal Albert Hall is out of this world. They learn so much and it will affect them for the rest of their lives.”
