Controversial cocktail bar in Falmouth luxury apartments gets green light
11:00am Friday 9th August 2013 in News
The owners of a block of luxury letting apartments in Falmouth have been given permission to open a cocktail bar, despite objections from some neighbours.
Mr T Wood and Ms Sefton applied to Cornwall Council for a premises licence in relation to The Oceanic in Lansdowne Road and were last week granted their request with the condition that no alcohol or other beverages are served in the outdoor area after 11pm.
The application was for the sale of alcohol between 9am and midnight daily with the bar closing at 12.30pm, but it was requested that residents and bone fide guests be permitted to buy alcohol “throughout the whole of every day.”
The applicants stated at the meeting of Cornwall Council's licensing sub-committee, though, that it was “very unlikely” that trading would be carried out 24 hours a day, but only on demand.
Two people also attended the meeting to object to the proposals, concerned that the outdoor seating area would lead to a noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour.
