Children in the Bulwark area of Helston could finally have their own play area by the end of the year.

With the final go-ahead now just days away, an empty patch of ground on Bulwark Road is set to be transformed with swings, roundabout and |multi-play unit, which are all “disability friendly.”

The playground design was chosen by the |children of the estate and their parents, with more than 70 people looking at the designs. Seven |proposals were whittled down to two, which were then offered to residents to choose between.

The Bulwark Residents' Group has led the project from the start, fundraising towards the £34,400 cost through events and applications for grants SITA, Helston Downsland Trust and Helston Town Council.

Councillors have now taken over the final stages of the project, although town clerk Chris Dawson said the residents’ group should “take all the |credit.”

On Monday councillors met to agree that |company Proludic would both supply and install the equipment, as this would be cheaper than|having separate contractors.

The play and young people committee also agreed to raise its previously agreed grant of £2,000 by a further £200 to cover the small shortfall.

The council must now contact SITA by the end of the month and once given the nod can then place the order for the equipment.

This should take eight to ten weeks to arrive and be installed, meaning it should hopefully be ready to unveil in October or November.

The town council will lease the area from Cornwall Council and be responsible for its |maintenance.
