7:00am Monday 12th August 2013 in News
Porthleven RNLI’s biggest fundraising event of the year is scheduled to take place next week, with fun for all the family.
This year’s Porthleven Lifeboat Day, on Sunday, August 18, will run from 11am to 5.30pm and will be based around the port’s harbour area. Entry is free and parking will be available at Porthleven Football Club.
Children can enjoy a Punch and Judy show or take a launch into the harbour in the “mini lifeboat” Dash II.
There will be a variety of stalls, including one raising money for the RNLI through the sale of souvenirs and Christmas cards.
One highlight of the day is expected to be a rescue demonstration by crews of the Penlee lifeboats and a helicopter crew from the 771 search and rescue squadron at RNAS Culdrose.
Lifeboat Day visitors can also enjoy water polo, a working boat parade, gig demonstrations and music. There will be refreshments and a raffle.
Organisers have advised people to enter the port via the Penzance road. Those travelling by bus should take the number 2A Helston/Penzance via Porthleven service, which stops at the Harbour Head.
