Friends and family gather for launch of boat built in memory of Christian “Chan” Vinnicombe

Dozens of friends and family gathered in Falmouth on Friday night to witness the launch of a one-of-a-kind boat built in memory of Christian “Chan” Vinnicombe who died in a car crash four years ago.
The unique memorial was the idea of Christian’s dad, Marshall, and the boat was built over the past three years by his twin, Tom, with help from his friends. It was created from the basic hull of a Kingfisher 18 and built in a make-shift boat shed at the top of the family drive in Penmere Crescent.
Friday marked the fourth anniversary of Christian’s death so it was deemed the perfect evening to officially launch and name the boat from the slipway next to the Falmouth Watersports Centre.
Marshall wielded a bottle of Champagne, which had been bought about 18-years-ago by his brother, Tim as it carried the initials of their father, George Marshall Vinnicombe, and Tom took the controls of the boat as it splashed into the water.
Some of the children at the event, including one who was named after Christian, were taken out for a trip in the boat, named Chris ‘Chan’ by Tom, 26.
