A man has been arrested after a vessel that was used to carry cargo to the Isles of Scilly was at raided by police in Penzance harbour.
The 70-year-old American man was arrested as part of a major drug smuggling operation by officers from the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and Devon and Cornwall Police.
A spokesman for SOCA, which went aboard the Evora at Penzance harbour on Monday, said: “Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police and the SOCA executed a European Arrest Warrant on an American national as a result of a request by the Spanish authorities,” he said.
“The arrested man, who is aged 70, appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody.
“The extradition process is now under way.”
The Evora used to be called the Ivor B.
