Falmouth Hotel marks anniversary milestone with grand garden party
9:00am Sunday 11th August 2013 in News
The Falmouth Hotel kicked off its 150 year celebrations by holding a traditional garden fete at the weekend.
The weather did not deter the stall holders or guests as the majority of the event was held inside the hotel.
Stalls were packed in the corridors, function rooms, lounge and bar area. The lawn hosted swing boats, chair plane rides, bucking bronco and the hotels play frame and swings. Punch and Judy, balloon making and the magician were given the indoor luxury of the new children’s playroom.
The festivities began at 1pm with the fete being opened by group general manager, Ben Young. The crowd’s descended into the hotel with a footfall of 500 plus people rummaging around the variety of stalls, including gifts, books, jewellery and charities to name a few. Rain didn’t deter the children from enjoying the rides and outside events between the showers.
The closing event of the afternoon was the tug of war with DJ Dean Woods announcing a request for volunteers to take on the team from Penryn Rugby Club. The result was a hilarious free for all with children, mums and dads running out on the lawn to grab for a free piece of rope on either team.
Mr Young said “We were absolutely delighted that so many familiar local faces came out in support of our 150th Birthday on Sunday 4th August. Several hundred pounds was raised for two nominated local charities, namely Alzheimer’s and Motor Neurone.
The weather was against us, but that didn’t deter the crowds from turning up and enjoying their hotel. As we enter into our 151st year we will continue to support and be a large part of the community for century’s to come.
With special thanks to Dave Addinall, and Jane Williams, the Fete was such a success that the hotel is planning to make it an annual event!”
