Truro's Thom teams up with his hero Mark Ramprakash

Cricket-mad Thom Hunt, from Truro, teamed up with his hero Mark Ramprakash to compete in the Virgin Active London Triathlon.
Thom was among 13,000 people taking part in the event and formed part of his cricketing hero’s relay team, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
He said: “As a cricket fan, being on Team Ramprakash was an amazing experience and the team spirit and atmosphere was unbelievable. As I’ve benefited directly from the wonderful work that Macmillan do, I’m so pleased to be able to raise vital funds to help ensure no-one has to face cancer alone.”
The feeling of elation Thom felt at the finish line in London’s ExCel Centre was a world away from how he felt two years ago when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Emergency surgery followed by chemotherapy left him “feeling like a complete zombie” but he credits Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mustard Tree Centre with providing a “little bit of heaven.”
As soon as he recovered Thom decided he wanted to give something back so he organised a cricket match which raised £20,000. That’s wasn’t enough, though, so he signed up for the triathlon.
A spokesman for Macmillan, said: “We’re thrilled with Thom’s fundraising efforts and it’s great that he got to compete alongside one of his cricketing heroes.”
