A 23-year-old man from Penzance has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the death of a pedestrian in Newquay.
Police say that at around 2am on Sunday (August 11)) a pedestrian was hit by a car outside the Godolphin pub on Henver Road, Newquay.
A Red Chrysler PT Cruiser that was travelling in and easterly direction collided with a 25-year-old male pedestrian.
Officers say that the PT Cruiser failed to stop at the scene and was found parked and empty nearby shortly afterwards.
The male driver has been found and was taken into police custody.
The injured man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and died of his injuries on Sunday morning.
A police spokesman said that the road conditions were dry with good visability.
Adding: "Due to the international surf event that is taking place in Newquay this weekend it is anticipated that there were a number of members of the public in the area at the time of the incident. Witnesses are urged to contact 101, quoting log 159 of 11/8/13.
The man has been released on police bail until November 18.
