6:00am Tuesday 13th August 2013 in News
The organisers of next years Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta have been sharing the excitement of the event with ships captains from across the world in a bid to bring even more ships to the town in 2014.
Chairman of the Falmouth Tall Ships Association, John Hick, made the 1200 plus mile journey to Riga in Latvia during the 2013 Baltic Tall Ships Race to showcase Falmouth’s marine facilities and shoreside entertainment highlights as the host port for the 2014 event.
The visit aimed to encourage ships to sign up to be part of the largest international maritime event in the South West of England next year.
John Hick reported, “Riga was a wonderful chance to meet captains on board their vessels to promote the benefits and highlights of being part of the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta in 2014 and to re-establish links with old friends on Mir and Kruzenshtern, which last visited Falmouth in 2008.”
Falmouth Tall Ships Association has been at the forefront of bringing magnificent Tall Ships to Falmouth for over twenty years and is again playing a major part in the organisation of the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta in the port in August 2014.
Falmouth Tall Ships Association also host visits by individual tall ships to Falmouth outside Regattas. It raises funds to support crews while in port and puts on a programme of visits for cadets. FTSA often arranges for the ships to be open to the public and to offer day sails, raising funds for the running of the ships while at the same time, enabling more people to go sailing and continuing Falmouth’s association with the world’s great sailing ships. FTSA will hold a Tall Ships Ball in 2014 as a fundraiser on 16 April at the Falmouth Hotel.
As an Official Partner of the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta, FTSA is supplying funding and volunteers to help with the smooth running of the Falmouth event. John Hick is Chairman of FTSA and also Chairman of the Falmouth Steering Group for the 2014 Regatta, leading a committee of many other partners and supporters.
