It is three cheers to fundraisers in Porthleven who have raised £250 for charity by brewing and drinking beer.
This year’s Porthleven Beer Festival, celebrating the best of home brewing in the port, raised funds for the Mermaid Centre at Truro’s Royal Cornwall Hospital, which supports women with breast cancer.
Judy Collins, who hosted the event with her husband Peter at their home, said: “It went very well. We had a good day – a very merry time.”
Now in its 11th year, the festival rewards the best home brewers in beer and wine. This year Woody Stevens retained his title for beer for the second year running, while Caroline and Jane from the village won in the liqueur section with their sloe gin.
Over the course of the afternoon a barbecue was run by Bubs Stephens, who also raised £40 towards the total by auctioning off prize winning vegetables he grew and then entered in St Martin Horticultural Show the previous day.
Judy thanked Bubs, or Bubbles, for doing “a sterling job,” adding: “Thanks also to all the locals that turned up with food and who brewed, donated raffle prizes or who contributed to the day.”
