It was a bumper year for entries in this year’s Coverack Horticultural Show.

This year’s numbers were up by almost 100, with 450 entries in total.

Show secretary Gloria Knight added that there were so many entries in the cookery section that extra tables had to be added to display them on. She suggested this could be down to the “Great British Bake Off effect”, with the TV programme encouraging more people to take up cooking. This year there was a new cup, given in memory of the late Brenda Daw who used to run Brenda’s shop in the village, for Cornish cookery – most points in the pasty, heavy cake, fairings and splits classes. The first recipient of this was Verna Tripconey.

Mrs Knight said: “It was fantastic. There were entries from new people that have come to the village, entries from holidaymakers; it was a lovely show.”

She thanked this year’s show president Geoff Tripp.

Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the show and Mrs Knight said the organising committee hoped to arrange something special to honour the occasion.
