Falmouth oyster festival line-up revealed
4:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in News
THE Falmouth Oyster Festival has announced its entertainment line up for 2013, including on stage presentations by TV Presenter James Strawbridge, 7th Rise founder and star of Hugh’s Three Hungry Boys Thom Hunt, plus a bakery demonstration by ‘the Global Baker’ Dean Brettschneider.
“The Falmouth Oyster Festival is so much more than just shellfish and I can't wait to be involved,” said James Strawbridge.
“It is rare to find such a huge range of quality all together in one place - for me it’s like the ultimate farmers’ market that brings together the artisan producers of the county with the traditional fishermen that give us the very best seafood and a superb reputation.”
The four-day celebration of the majestic mollusc takes place from October 10-13 and will kick off with a Grand Opening Bash when the Oysterman returns to Events Square along with a performance by local schools and free balloons for children.
The opening night sees the reappearance of Cornish favourite Johnny Cowling who this year will be supported by the sounds of the Falmouth Community Gospel Choir.
The Hot Chefs Challenge returns on the Friday night with Arty Williams, The Cove Restaurant, battling out against Nick Hodges, The Flying Fish Restaurant.
This year the local chefs will be joined by BBC Radio Cornwall personalities Daphne Skinnard and Tiffany Truscott.
Saturday night will come alive with ‘Songs of the Sea’ an evening of songs and shanties inspired by the sea and includes the Nauti Buoys, plus an optional ‘sea inspired’ fancy dress competition.
“We knew that we’d have to work hard to top last year’s success and we feel that the 2013 festival is shaping up to be another great year with a packed programme of daily cookery demonstrations and music, marquees bustling with Cornish food produce and art and craft stalls,” said festival organiser Mike Rangecroft, Falmouth Festivals.
The Falmouth Oyster Festival programme is fresh off the printers and is now widely available from Tourist Information Centres, shops, pubs and restaurants, sailing clubs, attractions and other outlets throughout the area.
The festival website www.falmouthoysterfestival.co.uk provides the full entertainment programme for the four day event, with a spotlight on the local chefs and their restaurants who will cook their signature dishes to appreciative audiences, as well as stallholders, travel information and the history and traditions of the oyster fisheries.
