Community fun day at Dracaena Centre: PICTURES
11:00am Sunday 1st September 2013 in News
Children of all ages along with their parents or carers flocked to the Dracaena Centre in Falmouth last week to take advantage of a host of activities laid on as part of a community fun day.
There were classes in circus skills and street dance as well as face and nail painting, a bouncy castle, craft sessions and multi-sports tasters which included kwik cricket, five-a-side and parachute games.
As well as staff and volunteers from the Dracaena Centre itself, activities were offered by representatives from Youth Cornwall, the Falmouth and Penryn Children’s Centre and Swamp Circus. Parents could also obtain advice and information from Cornwall Council and the police.
Centre manager, Richard May, said similar fun days are held at Easter, during autumn half-term and again just before Christmas to “bring people into the building so they can see what we do.”
He added: “We like to remind parents that we are here and that there is more going on here now than there was six months ago, or six months before that. We want to tell them ‘it’s your centre and we cannot do it without you so if we’re not doing something you want us to do, come and tell us’.”
