Flying French visit for Helston cabaret group
1:00pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
The cast of Epworth Hall’s cabaret group ACT2 have just returned from a successful gig in Plougasnou in Brittany.
Just under a year ago the twinning committee from Plougasnou visited Helston during Harvest Fair and judged the wine entered in the horticultural show.
The Harvest Fair committee arranged a free community show with the Epworth Hall to entertain their French guests who were so impressed that they invited the group to stage a concert in their hometown. The group at the time thought it was “pie in the sky” but they set up a saving scheme and then realised it was viable.
Earlier this month, the group headed to Plougasnou where the friendliness and kindness of their hosts was evident from the start. They were taken on sightseeing trips, met with the twinning committee at dinner and stayed with their families.
They were only there for one full day, but they were whisked around and entertained constantly. However they were still full of nerves when it came time to take to the stage.
They performed songs from a variety of musicals such as Sister Act, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera along with a selection of pop songs from many eras including Barry Manilow and Boyzone. The group have now forged lasting friendships with their French counterparts and have vowed to keep in touch.
