Jobs boost as Falmouth's Pendennis shipyard expands
6:00am Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
Expansion at Pendennis Shipyard means the company has between 20 and 30 jobs up for grabs.
The shipyard is holding an open evening tomorrow, Thursday between 5pm and 7.30pm, giving anyone interested the chance to tour the yard and speak in more detail about the available roles.
Experienced engineers, joiners, electricians, painters and exterior outfitters, as well as scaffolders, fabricators/ welders and yard team members are all being recruited.
The yard is in the process of having three new buildings go up – two 90-metre sheds and one 45-metre shed.
It means the company can taken on even more refit work, which accounts for approximately 90 per cent of the business. The yard has space for seven boats and larger vessels, up to 54 metres.
Toby Allies, sales and marketing director, said: “The yard development project, which is partially funded by the European Regional Development Fund, is progressing extremely well with two of the new construction bays reaching the final stages.
“We are also very pleased with current refit and new build bookings supported by a number of enquiries for the 2014/15 winter season. We are therefore looking to expand our talented team of tradespeople across the company.”
The past two winters have been the most successful to date for the company, which has prompted the development work. In the last two years it has also opened a base in Palma, where a representative is based to advise clients on parts and work needed around the Pacific.
