Energy 'yo yo' plan for empty West Cornwall wave hub
8:50am Saturday 7th September 2013 in News
A wave energy devive likened to a 'yo yo' could be installed at the empty Wave Hub testing site in St Ives Bay.
The 16m-wide "Lifesaver" generator, so called due to its lifebuoy shape, could be plugged in at the site near Hayle next year by engineering firm Fred Olsen.
The device uses the up and down motion of waves to drive a turbine.
Despite costing £42 million, the much lauded testing hub has been empty since it was installed in 2010.
Tore Gulli from Fred Olsen said: "We are hoping to be at Wave Hub for late next year or early-2015.
"Wave Hub is exactly what we as developers need on our way to commercial operations."
