Lanner man guilty of horrific child abuse
12:00pm Wednesday 11th September 2013 in News
A 50-year-old Lanner man has been found guilty of seven counts of rape, eight indecent assaults and three counts of indecent acts, all against children.
Joseph Richards was found guilty today, September 10 by a jury at Truro Crown Court.
Following the verdict, DC Jon Viant commented: “This conviction is the culmination of a sensitive and complex two-year Police investigation into the abuse of three children spanning around 15 years.
“The outcome would not have been possible were it not for the courage of the victims who were vulnerable children aged between 11 and 16 at the time of the offences.
“These terrible crimes have left the victims with mental scars but hopefully this verdict will bring closure and help them move on with their lives.
“I would like to reassure the public that Devon and Cornwall Police take all allegations of abuse seriously and this conviction illustrates how we are determined to bring offenders to justice no matter how long ago a crime may have taken place.”
Richards has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a date yet to be fixed.
