Less than two weeks to go before Falmouth Moonlight Memory Walk
2:00pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
With less than two weeks until Falmouth’s Moonlight Memory Walk there is still time to register to take part in the event and you won’t be walking on your own!
On Saturday, September 21, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) will be celebrating the fifth year of the Moonlight Memory Walk being held in Falmouth and there are hopes for more participants than ever this year.
Kate Powell, care team leader at Little Harbour took part in the sponsored walk last year with colleagues Sandra Crapp and Claire Kilbey from Little Harbour Care Team.
Kate said: “Last June was the second anniversary of my brother’s death and I struggled with it.
“As a nurse in the family and the one who seems to pull everything together for the family I felt that I was constantly supporting others and actually I needed to do something for me in memory of my brother. I felt like the Moonlight Memory Walk was the ideal thing and walking with friends made it special”.
Kate alongside colleagues Sandra and Claire will be taking part in the walk again this year, Sandra said: “Just to be part of that ‘purple sea of walkers’ felt extremely special. I can’t wait to get the pink tutu out and do it all again this year.”
If you have not decided whether to register to take part in this year’s Moonlight Memory Walk yet then do not worry. Registration is still open and even if you are registering on your own you will be sure to meet |many women, all walking with special memories which you |will celebrate together on the night.
Sarah Stott, events fundraiser at Little Harbour said: “There is such a special atmosphere |at these evenings and an overwhelming sense of camaraderie from all of the ladies who take part.
“If you cannot decide whether to take part, then take a leap of faith and register knowing that on the evening you will be walking alongside hundreds of ladies who are all there to celebrate the memory of someone and support each other.”
Money raised from this event will go straight towards the care and support given to families of life limited children who use Little Harbour – one of CHSW’s three hospices, in St Austell.
To register for the event all you need to do is visit the Children’s Hospice South West’s website at www.chsw.org.uk/moonlight or call Little Harbour on 01726 871800.
