Last dash to sign up for Mawnan Fun Run
8:00am Sunday 22nd September 2013 in News
Runners, joggers and walkers are being encouraged to sign up for the annual Mawnan Fun Run which takes place on September 29 and offers three categories to suit all fitness levels and ages.
Organised by Falmouth Rotary Club, last year’s event was such a success that £1,000 was donated to Mawnan Memorial Hall’s re-roofing fund and a further £675 to Rotary charities.
Rotarian, Rod Allday, chairman of the organising committee, said: “Last year was the first time that the Rotary Club had organised the event and we were delighted to have almost 160 competitors. This year we are aiming to attract 200 runners and hope to raise a target of £2,000 which will be donated to local youth organisations in the village.”
The event is intended to be fun for all the family with a one mile fun run around the village which is aimed at primary school children, a 5K race which heads out towards Trebah Gardens, and a 10K course of two laps for those who want more of a challenge. There will also be a barbecue, refreshments, a licensed bar, a bouncy castle and lots more going on at Carwinion Playing Field.
There are prizes for the winners of each race category donated by local businesses, including dinner, bed and breakfast at the Budock Vean Hotel for the male and female winners of the 10k race. This is matched by the Meudon Hotel which is offering the same prize for the winners of the 5k race. All those who enter in advance will receive a goody bag and a medal and there will be trophies for the children’s age categories.
Runners can enter online until September 22 at www.mawnanfunrun.org.uk and postal entry forms can be collected from shops in the village.
Entry on the day is possible at a surcharge of £2 per person but those runners will not be guaranteed to receive a goody bag.
