Help prepare Stithians for winter
4:00pm Friday 20th September 2013 in News
Everyone who lives in Stithians is being encouraged to join a litter pick early in October to prepare the parish for the winter.
It is being run by the parish council and will be held on Sunday, October 6 with volunteers meeting at the Stithians Centre at 2pm.
Equipment will be provided and afterwards there will be coffee, tea and fresh cakes for all.
Councillor Denis Nightingale, who is organising the clean up, said: “The attempt to keep the tide of litter at bay in the parish is sometimes like painting the Forth Bridge – never ending.
“But it’s especially important, as the road verges die back in autumn, that we remove the rubbish that comes to light so the village can look even nicer for the winter.
“Everyone who comes to a litter pick says it’s fun and satisfying because they are doing something important for the community and I’m sure there will be plenty of volunteers again this time.”
The parish council has also decided that Stithians Stars will make comeback in the New Year.
This is an annual chance for the numerous volunteers who do so much in the parish for a large number of organisations to be put forward for awards that recognise the important role they play in community life. Details will be announced later.
