Falmouth came out a winner as green-fingered gardeners from the South West descended on Truro Cathedral on Thursday for the annual South West in Bloom awards.
As well as recognising the best towns and cities in the region, the awards also honour individual projects in the It's Your Neighbourhood Awards.
Falmouth won the Gold Award in the Portman Cup with John Wheatley, SW in Bloom chairman, saying that Falmouth consistently produces some of the best municipal horticultural efforts that he has seen.
The town also won 12 In Your Neighbourhood Awards, ten of which were classified as outstanding. Among those was King Charles School and its award was collected by pupils Maddy and Hudson in front of an audience of over 300.
Jacqui Owen, who has run the school’s gardening club for the past seven years, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the school and is really well deserved.
“The children are always really enthusiastic about growing and have several areas around the school grounds, which they tend. It recognises the hard work put in by the children, parents and teachers all working together in school and in the community.”
