More than 100 members of the Falmouth and Penryn community came together last Friday to mark 150 years of the Falmouth Hotel.

Guests attending the gala dinner included the mayors of both towns and heads of various organisations, as well as representatives from the RNLI, Royal British Legion, armed forces, emergency services and education industry among others.

They enjoyed music from the Nankersey Male Choir over drinks before sitting down to dinner.

Here they were served with a starter of confit chicken terrine, followed by slow-cooked beef with horseradish mashed potato, and finishing with gingerbread pudding accompanied by custard and ice cream.

The meal was followed by coffee and petit fours, served shortly before a performance from comedian impressionist Drew Cameron, a one-time Britain’s Got Talent entrant.

Keith Richardson, chairman of the Richardson Hotels group that the hotel is part of, spoke about the history of the hotel, which was one of first buildings on the seafront when it opened.

He said: “It was around long before us all and will be around for many years to come. I’m just a custodian of this place and my staff are just caretakers.”

Mr Richardson added that the hotel was always “striving to be a fundamental part of the community of Falmouth,” demonstrated this year with free concerts on the lawns and by its involvement in the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta next year.
