Sennen school safety is a family affair as lollipop lady starts work
7:00am Monday 30th September 2013 in News
It was smiles all round for the parents and children at Sennen School on the beginning of the new term after a former pupil stepped forward to become the lollipop lady, just like her mother before her.
Pupils are being helped once again to cross the road safely, following the recruitment of the new CORMAC school crossing patrol, former pupil Ann Tregear.
Ann had worked as the School Crossing Patrol at the school until 1994 and her mother had also had the vital role before her.
Tony Phillips, headteacher at Sennen School, said; “We’re delighted to welcome Ann back, particularly as after the previous patrol left it was proving difficult to recruit a replacement for this important position, so we’re very grateful that Ann, especially with her connections with the school, came forward.”
Ann said: “It’s funny how things turn full circle. I never expected after I’d done the job I would be doing it again, but when I saw that the children weren’t getting the necessary supervision to travel safely to and from school, I had to do something.”
Councillor Bill Maddern for St Buryan and chairman of West Penwith Town and Parish Network, said: “This is extremely good news for Sennen School. Having the main A30 passing literally by their door makes this a dangerous place for children to cross. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Ann all the best for her future in this position and thank her for stepping into this vital community role. Drivers please watch out for Ann and the children, and remember to drive slowly past the school for the safety of those around you.”
The support of Sennen Parish Council, helped make the provision of a patrol possible.
