Baby delivered onboard Culdrose helicopter
10:18am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
The crew of an RNAS Culdrose helicopter has made a rather unusual delivery – a baby boy.
Members of the 771 search and rescue squadron were scrambled to the Isles of Scilly, where a woman had gone into labour.
They had received an emergency call from the South Western Ambulance Service asking for the woman to be flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
But before the helicopter had arrived on the mainland coastguards told the crew of seven had “just increased to eight.”
A midwife from the hospital was onboard the helicopter and delivered the baby safely.
Both mother and baby are believed to be doing well.
