Investigations continue this morning into the cause of a massive fire in St Ives last night.

More than 60 firefighters were called to Wharf Road just before 7.30pm, after smoke was seen issuing from a property.

The two-storey building, measuring 20m by 15m – which was being used as an arcade, coffee and tearoom and residential accommodation – was well alight when the crews arrived on scene.

Four pumps from St Ives, Penzance and Camborne fire stations were sent initially, together with an aerial ladder platform from Newquay and two officers.

They were later joined by three more pumps, a command support vehicle from St Just and operational support Vehicle from Falmouth, a welfare vehicle from St Dennis, water carrier from Helston and the Red Cross Fire & Emergency Support Service vehicle.

The fire was located on the ground floor of the building. Six fire fighters wearing breathing equipment went into tackle the blaze, while Western Power attempted to isolate the electrics.
