A father from Praze-an-Beeble has run the entire 309-mile stretch of Cornish coast path in just ten days - and raised £8,500 for Children's Hospice South West in the process.

Andy Jukes, 46, completed his Great Cornish Coast Path Run alongside friend Jayne Angilley.

They started at Cremyll, running down the south coast during the first few days, before running from Wellcombe Mouth to Land's End on the final five days.

On the finish line Andy and Jayne were greeted by representatives from the charity, family, friends and supporters who had been tracking their progress along the way.

They had over 50 people running with them at various points along the way, including three players from the Cornish Pirates who ran between Marazion and Penzance. The whole Cornish Pirates team also welcomed Andy and Jayne into Penzance, where they cheered them in through a Guard of Honour.

Other runners included Andy's teenage daughter Ashleigh and sons Samuel and Harry together with a dozen other children from Crowan School.

In total, Andy and Jayne ran a total of 309.1 miles each and climbed a phenomenal 51,970 feet in height throughout the run. After ten days of running, five ferry crossings, burning 59,849 calories, a lot of pain killers and losing a stone in weight Andy had completed the challenge that he had been training for and planning for months.

He said: “It was incredible! Most days of the run are a bit of a blur in my memory but the runners we had completing sections with us really helped to keep us motivated as they were so happy with their own personal achievements.

“We could not have done it without their support and that of our support crew in the guise of my dad Chris, my wife Polly and Jayne's husband David. The donations made have been phenomenal and everyone has been so generous.”

Andy has raised over £8,500 from his run and donations are still being made to his Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/CornishCoastRun290 Photos supplied. Captions: 1 - Andy on one of the ferry journeys of the challenge. 2 - The team of runners with Andy and Jayne at Lands End on their arrival.
