Pints and Playstation on the way as Falmouth 'gaming bar' gets green light
3:30pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
A new gaming bar is set to open in the former Shades building in Falmouth by the end of the month, but will only be allowed to sell alcohol until 10.30pm.
Former butcher, Richard Stamp has been granted a premises licence by Cornwall Council’s licensing sub-committee despite objections from local residents who fear a return to sleepless nights due to noisy customers of the bar.
Mr Stamp, however, has stressed that he is aiming for a cafe-style bar where people play computer games as well as traditional board games, and will not be playing music or hosting live acts.
Alcohol will only be served via table service and notices will be posted warning smokers not to congregate outside. The new business will also have to join the local Pubwatch scheme.
The 8-BIT Gaming Bar is intended to fill a gap in the market left open following the closure of the Loaded Bar opposite in Quay Street.
