Lanner man jailed over 'appalling' child abuse
4:50pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
A 50-year-old Lanner man found guilty of seven counts of rape, eight indecent assaults and three counts of indecent acts, all against children, has been jailed.
Joseph Richards was found guilty in September by a jury at Truro Crown Court, and has been jailed after being told at a hearing at Exeter Crown Court that he poses a substantial risk of sexually abusing young children in the future.
He must serve at least 12 years in jail before being considered for parole.
Speaking after Richards' conviction DC Jon Viant commented: “This conviction is the culmination of a sensitive and complex two-year Police investigation into the abuse of three children spanning around 15 years.
“The outcome would not have been possible were it not for the courage of the victims who were vulnerable children aged between 11 and 16 at the time of the offences.
“These terrible crimes have left the victims with mental scars but hopefully this verdict will bring closure and help them move on with their lives.
“I would like to reassure the public that Devon and Cornwall Police take all allegations of abuse seriously and this conviction illustrates how we are determined to bring offenders to justice no matter how long ago a crime may have taken place.”
