A range of lots produced a lot of money at an auction raising funds for Porthleven’s Christmas lights display.
Held last Thursday at the Atlantic Inn, the main part of the evening featured an auction of produce donated by locals and businesses in the port.
As a result £724 was raised towards this December’s display.
Organiser Judy Collins, from the lights committee that organises the Christmas display as well as the port’s seasonal fairy lights, said: “It went very well. There was a lot of produce and a lot of people attended.”
Rev Harry Pugh, vicar of St Bartholomew’s Parish Church, opened the evening before landlord Adrian Santi got the auction going, helped by Stephen Nicholas. Later Peter Collins took over the auctioneering.
She gave a “big thank you” to everyone who attended and took in produce, plus the businesses that supported the event as usual with raffle prizes.
Thanks also went to Gavin Lang for his work collecting money and Diana Churchman for running the raffle.
“It was a successful night and we’re really pleased that we raised so much money,” she added.
This year, in addition to the usual festive displays, the committee hopes to be able to also light the clock tower of the Bickford Institute.
Progress has been delayed as the committee has had to apply for planning permission, after initially believing this was not needed.
The tree and its lights have this year been sponsored by Porthleven WI, and Mrs Collins said the committee was grateful for this.
