7:00am Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
A Truro based carer has been named as a finalist in the Great South West Care Awards 2014.
Part of the Great British Care Awards, the awards are held each year across the UK and recognise and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
Carol Jorey from Home Instead Senior Care in Truro is as a finalist in the Care Newcomer Award category and will learn if she is a winner at a awards evening in Bristol on November 15.
With a background in teaching, Carol has personal experience of care as a family carer for her daughter.
She said: “I lost my grandparents when I was young and I really miss them, so my clients are like my extended family. I never leave my clients without making them smile, I love hearing their tales, their history and I put everything I can put into looking after them.”
Carol was nominated by her boss, Tim Roe, who said: “Carol is incredibly kind and empathetic and really takes the time to get to know her clients and their families, so she can provide them with the best quality care and support.
"Although she only joined the team in January she has already made a massive impact on her clients’ lives, in particular to those with complex needs including dementia and Parkinson’s. I’m particularly proud of the way in which she has gone out of her way to attend specialist courses in order to understand these conditions and how she has used this knowledge to better manage difficult behaviours and support her client’s family members.”
He added that the team all have their fingers crossed for Carol for the awards evening.
