Helston and St Keverne Young Farmers’ Club members swapped overalls for glad rags on Friday when they enjoyed their annual dinner and dance.

An end of club year celebration, the evening took place at Merchants’ Manor in Falmouth.

It allowed members to join with their parents and other club supporters for a three course meal, forgetting their responsibilities for a few hours.

It also marked the handover of club roles. Frances Hosken, retiring club reporter, said: “The event is a celebration of the club’s achievements throughout the year and a chance for the retiring officers to let their hair down and look back on a successful year in their roles.”

During the evening cheques for £3,500 each were presented to Cornwall Air Ambulance and the Farming Community Network, the two charities the club had decided to support through its fundraising events over the previous 12 months.

Trophies were also presented to the most deserving members, who accepted them from Andrew Bray in his first dinner and dance as club president.
