Creepy Crawly Ball a big hit with the little monsters: PICTURES

The ball made use of the site that was to be used for the Hallowe’en Masked Ball the following day. Almost everyone who attended dressed in spooky costumes. There were witches and werewolves, zombies, devils and vampires.

The young visitors – as well as those merely young at heart – were able to try their hand at pumpkin carving, have their faces painted, bob for apples and “splat rats.”

Squashbox Theatre performed Skillywidden, a puppet show about the mischievous faeries and pixies of Cornwall, and there was seasonal storytelling from actor John Brolly.

The fun did not end there, with ball goers also able to enjoy a free fun fair, family disco in a “crashed UFO” and a fancy dress parade that ended with the crowning of the King and Queen of the Creepy Crawly Ball 2013. The titles went to 11-year-old Ruby from Camborne and six-year-old Joe from Manaccan.

The event’s proceeds will be shared by Coverack, St Keverne and St Martin primary schools. Each will receice £500. Joint head teacher Tom Harman said everyone was “delighted” at the prospect of the money, which will be used to improve the outdoor play area.

The ball was organised by Masked Ball Productions, a Cornish event production company that holds two masked balls each year. Managing director Kelvin Batt said: “We have always pledged to support local charities and organisations through the Masked Ball events. As the Creepy Crawly Ball is a family event and the first of its kind in Cornwall, I thought it would be fitting to donate the proceeds to the local schools.”
