A dozen residents of Traboe and the surrounding area have attended the last meeting of St Keverne Parish Council en mass to complain about the impact of this year’s Hallowe’en Masked Ball.

It was claimed the noise from the ball, which took place at Rosuick Farm near Goonhilly a fortnight ago, could be heard from as far away as St Martin, Manaccan and St Keverne.

The event has been organised by Masked Ball Productions Ltd for the last three years, but this year the event with torrential rain and a series of unforeseen emergencies that caused long delays on the roads and resulted in some being turned away.

One neighbouring farmer, Martin Williams, claimed his cattle were so affected by the noise that milk yield was down by two litres a day afterwards.

He believed it was the wrong location for the event, saying: “The site is not in a position to get things in and out of.”

PCSO Julia Berry reported that Helston Police Station had received a “series of complaints” about the ball, which had been passed to the licensing department at Cornwall Council, while Cornwall Councillor Walter Sanger told the meeting that the event was also “the main contention that has fallen on my desk” this month.

Kelvin Batt, of Masked Ball Productions Ltd, has apologised for any inconvenience to residents, adding: “The organisers took great care and preparation to ensure the smooth |running of the event in accordance to the event management plan and licence.”
