Police have issued a warning to all parents and school children to be vigilant this week after a stranger attempted to lure a boy into his car as he walked to school.

The 16-year-old was approached as he made his way from Falmouth to Penryn College on Friday morning.

The year 11 student, whose mother wants him to remain anonymous, was left shaken and worried for his safety after three separate incidents which took place between 8am and 8.30am in both Falmouth and Penryn.

The teenager had left his home at 8am on Friday and was walking down Boslowick Hill near the shops when he first noticed the man in a “high class” Mercedes saloon car. “He drove passed pretty slowly, rolled down the window and looked at me quite intriguingly,” he said.

“He drove off and when I reached Boslowick Garage, about seven or eight minutes later, he was there in his car on the garage forecourt. I was then walking up the hill towards Penmere Station, with no-one else around, and he came up behind me, rolled down the window of his quite high class Mercedes and said in an accent ‘do you want a lift?’ “I said ‘no’ and walked up onto the train station and got on the train. It was a bit worrying how he looked at me and how he had waited for me.

“I got off at Penryn and just as I was walking near the blue bridge, he drove past again. He didn’t stop this time, but that was probably because I had met friends by then and there were quite a few of us.”

The teenager reported the incident to staff at Penryn College and his mum brought in the police who told her to spread the word, to remain vigilant and to make a note of the registration of the car if it is seen again.

She said: “Someone did message me and said they thought they had seen the same car in the Trago Mills area on the same day. It is all a bit concerning because the fact he appeared in Penryn a few minutes after leaving Penmere, it’s obvious he followed the train.

“I want to make sure that everyone is vigilant and keeps and eye out for this car and for them to contact the police if they think they see it. I am glad that my son had the sense to stay away from the car door and he is OK. Who knows what might have happened?”

The student, who had been wearing a Penryn College rucksack, was able to give a fairly comprehensive description of the man and his car. The car is a silver Mercedes saloon with darkened windows, black leather interior and a built-in sat-nav. The man was in his mid-30s and believed to be Eastern European.

He wore dirty white overalls with a blue top underneath, had dark stubble and short dark hair. The police are carrying out further investigations which will include trying to obtain any CCTV footage that may available from the area.
