Schools around the Helston and Lizard area have been getting into the fundraising spirit by raising money for Children in Need in a variety of ways.

St Michael's School in Helston held a non-uniform day by allowing the children to wear ‘onesies’ for the day. They were contacted by Santander Bank in Helston as a member of their staff also had the same idea.

They suggested a joint fundraising effort due to both the school and the bank being within the same community. The bank matched the school's money raised and also carried on the fundraising for the rest of the day.

Landewednack School at the Lizard managed to raise a magnificent £230.65 through a non-uniform day for the students. Headteacher Sue Wilson said: “We are so grateful to all of the parents and children who have donated, a huge thank you to all.”

Staff at the school decided that the situation in the Philippines also demanded some charity from the day. Sue said: “We are proud to be able to share what we have raised between Children in Need and the relief effort in the Philippines.”

Helston Community College had many different activities going on. Year seven were dressed up as super heroes and also had a cake sale, while the year nines organised leg waxing, target throwing and wet sponging in the quad.

St Martin School held a cake sale and a ‘copper penny trail’, while Parc Eglos School held a mass assembly before splitting to continue fundraising in individual classrooms.

Children in Need always brings people and communities together and this year the schools did not disappoint with their efforts.
