High school’s farewell to head of RE after 27 years

The Rev Ian Little, of Stithians, has retired after 27 years as Truro High School's head of religious education and 21 years as chaplain.

Mr Little joined the school in 1979 and, since that time, has served under two headmistresses and two headmasters. He has also seen the school expand, both in terms of physical space with the incorporation of the Daniell Road site and pupil numbers.

"There have been a lot of changes over the years but I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here," said Mr Little. I am leaving with many fond memories."

Mr Little, who was ordained in 1985, presided over his last school carol service last week. Headmaster Michael McDowell took the opportunity to pay public tribute to his commitment and dedication.

"Twenty-seven years is a long time for one man to give to one school but he has always given generously," he said. "Hundreds of girls have been guided through confirmation and membership of the church as a result of his ministry and he has undoubtedly been a major influence in the school's development."

Mr Little is looking forward to spending his retirement pursuing his favourite hobbies, which include fishing and motorcycling. He and his wife are also planning camping holidays in France.
