A couple who rented furnished accommodation at Helston left the place without warning after trashing it, causing damage and stealing numerous items of property, Truro magistrates heard.

Christine Robson, the owner, who let the property through an agency, was informed that the couple had “done a runner” in May after |trashing the place, Alison May, for the CPS, said.

Before the court was Suzanne Jessica Tranter, aged 23, of Blaby, Leicester, who pleaded guilty to damaging walls and interior |furnishings at 23 Carey Park, Helston, between July last year and May this year, belonging to Ms Robson; and guilty to stealing various kitchen utensils and appliances and items of furniture of a value unknown belonging to Ms Robson.

Appearing in court with her was Josh Tranter, 24, of the same address, who pleaded guilty to two similar charges, and an additional charge of harassing James Kyle by making six offensive telephone calls to him at Bude during August this year.

Ms May said when Ms Robson last saw her property it had been in good condition. But then she was told by her letting agent that the tenants had “done a runner” and had trashed the place.

There were about 100 boxes of her life’s possessions in the attic. Things were missing from the garage, the kitchen, a window had been smashed and boarded up, utensils were |missing, there was damage to the stairs, walls and laminated flooring. Tables and mirrors were missing, and all that remained in the lounge/diner was a sofa and an arm chair.

Everything else, including curtains, nets, shelving and rugs had gone, and upstairs doors had been ripped off and beds and furniture were missing.

The harassment charge involved messages Josh Tranter had sent to Mrs Tranter’s grandfather, which contained foul and abusive words with a racist flavour.

Mrs Tranter was allowed to be outside the court for the hearing because she was nursing a very young baby.

Her husband admitted breaching a conditional discharge.

The case was adjourned to a Leicester court for sentence on December 13, the magistrates asking for probation reports.
