A young man has been airlifted to hospital after a serious crash on the A3058 between Quintrell Downs and Summercourt.

Air ambulance and emergency services were called to the scene of the one vehicle crash, with firefighters called just before 1pm.

The road was closed in both directions with slow traffic due to vehicle recovery work after a vehicle has gone into a hedge/woodland.

The man, understood to be 20-years-old, who was taken to hospital by air ambulance has suffered what could be life-changing leg injuries.

A fire service spokesman said: "Five firefighters from Newquay and four from St Columb were mobilised to the incident. A specialist Rescue Tender was also mobilised with six firefighers from Bodmin.

The vehicle involved had left the road and there was one male casualty trapped in the wreckage. Using two sets of crash rescue equipment firefighters removed the roof from the vehicle and firefighters assisted ambulance paramedics with the extraction of the casualty.

"Once the casualty had been removed from the vehicle they were left in the hands of Paramedics whilst firefighters made the scene safe."
