UPDATE: Police have confirmed that the male driver in the car died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the tractor was taken to Derriford Hospital.

The driver of a red coloured Skoda Fabia, driving towards Bodmin, was an elderly man from the Hampshire area. He has not been formally identified at this time.

The road was closed for accident investigation work and re-opened by 1am this morning.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to please contact them on 101 quoting ref. 584 02/12/13

 

Police dealing with a serious collision on the A30 near Launceston are advising motorists to avoid the area.

A tractor towing a trailer and a car were involved in the collision on the westbound carriageway just past the Altarnun and Five Lanes junction.

The collision happened at around 5.05pm. The tractor and trailer have both overturned. Fire and ambulance services were called to assist.

The male driver of the tractor has been taken to Derriford hospital by ambulance.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the A30 is expected to be closed for several hours.
The A30 is closed westbound at Five Lanes and Trewint and the eastbound carriageway has also been closed. Diversions are in place.

Diversion in operation - Westbound traffic advised to follow the square symbol via the A388 south to Saltash and A38 west through Liskeard to rejoin the A30 at Bodmin. Eastbound traffic diverted locally through Fivelanes Village.
