Coverack’s Christmas celebrations began in earnest on Saturday when its RNLI branch held a festive fundraising fayre.
The event proved much luckier with the weather this year, enjoying a dry sunny day as opposed to last year’s “appalling” weather.
This led to a good turnout, with many more children there to see Father Christmas arrive at St Peter’s Hall.
Youngsters from Coverack Primary School and the Little Fishes parent and toddler group were also able to take part in a colouring competition in the run up to the fayre.
For general visitors there were stalls, a raffle and items from local traders to buy, with a hamper to be won via a draw of prize squares – all of which were sold.
Patty Murphy, secretary of the Coverack branch of the RNLI, said: “It went very well – the hall was full.”
Over the course of two hours almost £1,200 was raised – £773 for the RNLI, with a further £300 to £400 towards the replacement of the branch’s shed on the harbour, which is used as a shop during the summer months.
This is now rotting away and members need to raise around £4,000 to replace it.
Various cream tea events have already been held, with the branch currently just over halfway towards its target.
“Fundraising is ongoing. We thank everyone who has donated and supported us for that,” added Mrs Murphy.
