Work and health reasons have forced one of Helston’s town |councillors to resign after just seven months in post.

The departure of Lloyd Harris leaves a vacancy in the north ward.

Mr Harris told the Packet: “The work load was getting more and more. My job is such that I couldn’t really dedicate enough time to it. I had some old health shocks that started to raise their ugly head again. Something had to give |basically.”

Mr Harris, who works for Lloyds Bank, said he was unable to keep up the necessary level of commitment, adding: “The guys on there all work, the work they do is unbelievable.”

He said he was “gutted” to have to make the decision, as he was enjoying the work and looking forward to |forthcoming projects, and vowed to |continue working in the community in some way.

Mr Harris added: “Thank you to everyone for their support and voting for me. It was really great, thinking people thought that of me and that they would vote for me.”

Notices went up yesterday (Tuesday) calling for residents wanting an election to be held to register their wish by January 3.

A total of ten people on Helston’s |electoral role must make the request in writing, to town clerk Chris Dawson, for a by-election to take place. If not enough people write in then the council can |co-opt a new member.
