A charity auction in Cadgwith has raised more than £6,000 thanks to a little help from some celebrities.

Star lots at the auction, held in the wake of a devastating typhoon in the Philippines, included tickets to Britain’s Got Talent with the chance to meet Simon Cowell, which went for just under £500.

More tickets, to see band The Wanted in Cardiff, with a backstage meet and greet, were snapped up for £320.

Called Cadgwith Storm Force, the auction was held at the Cadgwith Cove Inn and took an impressive £6,030 over the course of three hours.

Sarah Stephens, who helped organise the event, said: “It was absolutely incredible.”

John Trewin and Ian Cox shared the auctioneering role, helping pile up the pounds.

The whole village came up trumps in providing lots, from original artwork through to stays in holiday cottages and promises of babysitting and nail parties from some of the younger members of the community.

Two 14-year-old boys, William Trewin and Jamma Phillips, pledged to carry out a car wash accompanied by “a bit of banter,” which earned the pot a further £35.

“We were blown away by the total – it was so exciting,” added Sarah.

In the past the group of friends has held successful fundraising nights following the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004 and the earthquake in Haiti in 2010.
