Record taking at Mawgan Church Christmas Bazaar: PICTURES
3:00pm Friday 13th December 2013 in News
This year’s Mawgan Church Christmas Bazaar enjoyed record takings on Saturday.
Guest of honour opening the event was none other than Santa himself. As usual, he gave his reindeers a rest ahead of their big night in two weeks’ time, and arrived in a pony and trap.
This was supplied and driven by Graham Caines. Santa was accompanied by assistant elf Rev Heather Aston.
As usual the homemade cakes were the favourite first destination, followed by a steady stream of people enjoying the colourful displays of Christmas table arrangements, wreaths, bric-a-brac and many other goodies.
Raffles and tombolas had people returning until all the prizes went and Nellie Sobey and Tessa Cooke kept everyone refreshed with tea and cakes. There was keen competition in the games room to beat the highest scores in the marble game, hoop la and bagatelle, with guess the weight of the Christmas cake, number of sweets and nuggets also proving popular.
The final takings exceeded £900, a record for this event, prompting the church to thank everyone who made and donated goods and gave so freely of their time, as well as all who went and spent their money to make the day so successful.
Having replaced the church heating this year, the fundraising continues to repair the roof in 2014.
