The efforts of fundraisers in Mullion over the last half a century were recognised on Saturday when the village’s Cancer Research UK branch was presented with a certificate.
Since the group was started in 1959 by Mrs Wood, the late wife of Dr Wood, a total of £175,000 has been raised towards research into the disease.
Current members met at the WI hall for their Christmas fundraising fayre, which raised £400 towards the ongoing total.
Making a special guest appearance at the event was Ann-Maree James, from the head office of Cancer Research UK, who presented a certificate Dr Wood, the committee’s president.
She also presented three members of the committee with certificates of appreciation.
Grace Goodbody, Judi Darbi-Fairweather and Joyce Rendle have run the kitchen for the last 16/17 years, and are now standing down from the committee, although they will continue to support the group in the future.
