Porthleven came together last Friday to see the port’s Christmas lights display switched on.

A festive atmosphere was created by Porthleven Town Band playing carols and Christmas songs, with Porthleven School Signing Choir also performing, led by Charlene Bastedo.

Porthleven Apostolic Church provided the hymn sheets, and they have been thanked along with all the stallholders.

A merry-go-round was set up for |children, while the primary school’s |parent and teacher association ran a burger bar, led by Sue and Terry Davies plus helpers.

Santa made an appearance on the back of a truck driven by Martin, ably assisted by elves Gavin Lang and Martin Johns.

The evening included a fireworks |display, let off by Stephen Nicholas and Chris Stevens.

Judy Collins, who is on the organising committee, said: “It all went very well and there was a good turnout. I’ve had quite a few good reports back.”

She thanked all the businesses for their support, along with everyone from the port who turned out to support the |organisations.

In particular she said: “A big thank you to Paul and Sharon from the post office for providing chocolates for the children again this year.”

The evening was jointly organised by Porthleven Lights Committee and Porthleven Primary School, in conjunction with the town band.
