Falmouth Packet: Bid to add two new wind turbines at Goonhilly Bid to add two new wind turbines at Goonhilly

The company in charge of Goonhilly Downs Wind Farm is considering adding two new wind turbines.

REG Windpower has put in a pre-application enquiry to Cornwall Council about a possible extension of the wind farm, which is part of the Bonython Estate.

Currently the farm consists of six turbines, each standing 107 metres to the tip. The new turbines would a similar size and adjacent to the existing ones.

The documents came before St Keverne parish councillors at their last meeting, and although no recommendation was needed at that stage the scheme had members’ support.

Councillor David Lambrick said: “They’re in exactly the same area as the others and I can’t see a problem.”

Goonhilly Wind Farm is one of the oldest wind farms in the UK, generating energy since 1993.

In 2010 REG Windpower completed a project to replace the 14 older turbines with six newer turbines, doubling the installed capacity.
