WITH Christmas the time of giving, one man who has done so much for Porthleven received an extra special gift this year.

Rev Harry Pugh, former parish priest of St Bartholomew’s Church, who was also the port’s first mayor and a town councillor for many years, was presented with a town plaque.

Current mayor Mark Berryman made the award at the end of Porthleven Town Council’s Christmas dinner last week, held at Seadrift.

Mr Berryman said: “The biggest honour we can give in Porthleven is a town plaque. It’s my great honour and privilege to be presenting it to Harry.”

Accepting the honour, Rev Pugh said he was delighted to be receiving the town’s crest on a plaque, as he took so much |pleasure from wearing it on the mayoral chain.

He said: “It was a great |privilege, honour and pleasure to be mayor of Porthleven town and a member of Porthleven Town Council. I had a largely easy run because the council was so |supportive.”

Rev Pugh said he missed his time serving on the council and thanked consort Mrs Pete Head for being his “great support” |during his time as mayor.
