Retired Falmouth dock workers enjoyed a lucky Friday 13 when they got together for their annual Christmas dinner.
Directors and managers from A&P Falmouth waited on around more than 120 former employees at the annual pensioners’ dinner at Falmouth School.
The event, which the company has run for over 30 years, gave the guests an opportunity to catch up with former workmates, and gave the senior management team a chance to show their appreciation for their former employees’ years of dedication and hard work.
Peter Child, managing director of A&P Falmouth, gave a speech and presented his annual report, which reflected the year’s redundancies and the a downturn in work, and his hope for more commercial vessel work in the near future, as well as looking forward to early 2015 when there will be some large contracts.
He talked about the difficult times at the docks, with which many of the attendees may have sympathised, having experienced redundancies themselves in 1979 and 1994.
Paul Kneebone, HR manager of A&P Falmouth, said: “Once again it was a good evening and a chance to catch up with old friends and colleagues, it is certainly something that the pensioners and company management alike look forward to.”
The pensioners' return of thanks was given by retired engineering manager Stuart Martin, before Keith Whitaker gave a speech to absent friends, as some old faces at the dinner were replaced by new retirees.
The school’s canteen ladies were also thanked for preparing the meal, and there was a raffle with prizes donated by A&P Falmouth customers, partners, and by local businesses.
